How long after a city-hall wedding to have the family/friend party? - party after eloping

My friend and I are planning to marry in July '08 in Denmark, without telling anyone anything. We announced our engagement and were planning a semi-traditional wedding of our friends and family in April 2009, but remained more or less decided when we visit his family this summer, and celebrate the month of April next. We are both happy, but I wonder what would people think to celebrate our wedding 9-10 months after the royal wedding.
